About the artist

Michael Mertes grew up in Houston Texas. He attended private Catholic Schools until he enlisted in the USN in 1978.While in the United States Navy, Michael was able to explore many part of the world. He was in Australia, Japan, Thailand and the Indian Ocean. His many journeys help to nurture his love of art. Since he has graduated in 2007, he has displayed his art in Banks, and at UAF in the art gallery.
